The
Huron River has a "put and take" fishery during the early months of the
season. During April, fishing is flys only, catch and release only. Action can
be heavy given the right conditions. Access can be gained in the Proud Lake state
park. Anglers tend to concentrate around the Wixom Rd access point, but the whole
stretch from Proud Lake to Wixom road is available during the early season.

Proud Lake state park is beautiful throughout
the season and is a good place to take kids canoeing during the summer. There are
several local canoe liveries close to and in the state park.
One of my favorite flys to use while fishing here is a Dark Spruce. Another is the
Mickey Finn. Midges can also produce exciting action when the fish are rising.

The pattern for these flies can be found in
the book below Universal Fly Tying Guide, by Dick Stewart.
It can be bought directly from Amazon by clicking on the
book. I have used this book myself and found it to be a good guide.
