It had been a while since I fished Johnson Creek. Several bad outings in a row had me quite negative about the creek for a while. I walked a section in the upper creek recently improved by Pulte Homes with some bolders to create some holes and funnels and some lunker structures but in the end I decided to fish my old faithful portion of the creek. My favorite hole just would not produce no matter how hard I pounded it. Finally at dusk I caught and released this stocker.

A feeder creek.

Had perhaps my best day ever on this creek.
Caught and released lots of browns several of which I believe to
be hold-overs. The picture below is one of them.

As you may have guessed this creek is becoming a favorite
place of mine. After falling face first in the water last
year and toasting my digital camera after catching a large
trout, I vowed to go back and get him or one of his brothers
this year. Some patience and persistence paid off this
morning. Judging from the size of my hand and the net in
these pictures I estimate this one went anywhere from 12 to 14
inches. Catch and release and they will survive from year
to year in this creek.

Was planning on fishing this evening, but when a quick
thunderstorm passed through, it really got me pumping.
Sometimes this can be the best time to fish for some
brownies. Caught and later release the 10 inch planter
below on my first cast. Never did find that big lunker I
left in the creek last summer, but I'll be back.

Started fishing at dawn. after catching several chubs,
moved into a big hole and started running a Panther Martin
spinner through the hole. Got a fish on that was so big I
thought it must be a carp at first, but no, it was a big
brown. Went way over 15 inches. Tried to take its
picture before I released it but it flipped out of my hand to
escape any proof of every being caught. Then the trip went
downhill. I tripped over a large rock in a deeper section
of the creek while going after a snag and went for a swim.
Digital camera an all got soaked. Camera is showing no
signs of life. Busted my ultra-light rod in the fall as
well.

The evening did not get off to a good start. I went
with a dozen "garden hackle" just to get a sense of
where or if the fish were out there. I soon ran out of my
bait after catching endless chubs and getting very
frustrated. I was just about ready to throw in the towel
and on a whim tied on a Mepps spinner. Well the first cast
through the hole I was working produced the trout below.
Yes they are in there!
