Paint Creek

information.jpg (10794 bytes)

The Paint Creek Valley is just north of downtown Rochester, MI.  As a matter of fact good trout fishing can be had at the city park in downtown Rochester.

Access can also be gained from a number of roads crossing the creek at right angles off of Orion Rd.   The Paint Creek trail parallels the creek for much of its length up to Lake Orion.  Not only is it a good place to ride a mountain bike or go jogging, it provides lots of access points to the creek that wouldn't otherwise exist.

Trout Unlimited through The Clinton Valley Chapter has been active in improving this fishery.  The CVTU chapter is always looking for new members.

The trout stocking numbers can be seen at The Michigan DNR website.  This steam has been stocked for years by the DNR with large numbers of fish.

The Detroit News has printed several articles in the past on the improvements to this resource. See article 1 and article 2.

Some good "searching" flies on Paint Creek are Hare's Ear, and Zug Bugs.  The patterns can be found in the outstanding American Nymph Fly Tying Manual, which can be ordered below on the image to the left.
