"Hopper country" on the
main branch of the White near Aetna
The White River's origins are the Oxford Swamp area in
north-central Newago County. The upper White above White
Cloud has been designated a blue ribbon trout stream.
Brook trout are the predominant fish in this section until you
get closer to White Cloud.
Below White Cloud a good point to try fishing especially
during grasshopper season is the river's junction with
M-20. The DNR puts many planters in there and I have to
believe that there are some large hold-overs in there somewhere.

Scene from the North Branch of
the White
Below Hesperia, there are many fine tributaries to the
White. The biggest is the North Branch of the White which
contains several species of trout in its run. You can also
access the North Branch of the White from M-20, so you can hit
two branches in one easy drive down the highway if you continue
on to Aetna.
Several other smaller tributaries enter the White below the
North Branch and some have some good brook trout fishing but
that is as specific as this site will get. The rest is to
be done as an exercise by the angler. Tight lines.
